Book Review: The Midnight Clear- Holiday Crime Novel by Mary Kay Andrews

Want a little crime with your Holdiays? Who doesn’t want to solve a murder mystery by the light of the Christmas Tree. That is exactly what this is. Midnight Clear by Mary Kay Andrews.

In this heartwarming, suspenseful, and hilarious novel, Callahan Garrity and the outrageous band of "girls" in her Atlanta cleaning crew join together during the Christmas rush to prove that her trailer-trash brother didn't kill his even trashier estranged wife.

This was my first time reading Mary Kay Andrews and she is pretty funny a lot of sarcasm and she doesn’t just throw you into the murder she does take time to do a bit of character development. There are a lot of clear characterizations: the good guys and the bad guys so it is a bit obvious where the road is going to take you. It reminds me a little bit of the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich but the main character here has more wits so less idiotic stumbling about and since it takes place in Atlanta it has that Southern Charm.

A quick read at 336 pages a murder mystery with a bit of a holiday backdrop of Christmas Parties and Christmas Trees. If you’re looking for a fun light read with a twinkle of Holidays and little family love this might be worth your time.
